Digenic Inheritance for the Flop Trait in Peanuts¹

The flop phenotype in peanuts (Arachis hypogaea L.) is characterized by large revolute leaflets, coarse stems, and reduced fruit yield. F₂ segregation data supported a 15:1 digenic inheritance model, with the flop phenotype governed by duplicate recessive alleles. There were no differences for reciprocal infraspecific cross populations. Gene symbols, fl₁fl₁fl₂fl₂ were proposed for the flop genotype.
