Digenic Inheritance for the Flop Trait in Peanuts1

W. D. Branch and Ray O. Hammons2

The flop phenotype in peanuts (Arachis hypogaea L.) is characterized by large revolute leaflets, coarse stems, and reduced fruit yield. F2 segregation data supported a 15:1 digenic inheritance model, with the flop phenotype governed by duplicate recessive alleles. There were no differences for reciprocal infraspecific cross populations. Gene symbols, fl1fl1fl2fl2 were proposed for the flop genotype.

Key Words: Arachis hypogaea L. • Digenic ratio • Duplicate recessive • Groundnut
